Doug Fir embodies an idealized vision of what Portland could be. It depicts a northwest modernism melded with a log cabin and a hipster bar. The mountain lodge aesthetic merged with existing modernist elements of the previous motel capture the optimistic experience of travel and motels in the northwest.
Existing large glulam beams were restored and offset by new modern finishes like stainless steel, glass block and chrome ceiling panels applied in a new manor. The futuristic application of modern materials, careful programming of space juxtaposed against an existing modernist structure create an unique experience and architecture.
